Plantasia Tropical Zoo
The Plantasia Tropical Zoo is located in the Parc Tawe retail park in Swansea, South Wales. It is a relatively large glass hothouse that opened to the public in 1990. They exhibit a wide range of reptiles, amphibians, mammals, fish, plants and insects.
Things to do at Plantasia Tropical Zoo
There are two climate zones within the glasshouse. There is a tropical zone and an Arid zone. There are some lovely features to look out for including a waterfall lookout, a rainforest hut, a living bridge and interactive educational exhibits.
You start by exploring the below-ground zone that is full of creepy crawlies. Then you head into the forest floor where there is a 12ft snake, leaf-cutting ants and a pond full of fish. You can climb through the meerkat’s tunnel, say hi to some of their reptiles and count their Egyptian tortoises.
In the tropical area, they also have an iguana, marmosets and a talkative parrot. You will also come face-to-face with crocodiles. The venue even offers crocodile feeding sessions (from the age of 11) and zookeeper experiences (from the age of 6). The place is amazing to look out and their interactive exhibits are great fun for kids. Look out for their handling sessions where you can get closer to some of their inhabitants.
