Quarry Bank is a great National Trust to visit with kids. There are so many things to do whatever the weather. The site is a great industrial heritage community. There is the option to go on a guided tour of the apprentice house to learn about the children who lived there and worked in the mill.

Things to do at Quarry Bank National Trust

You can wander around the Mill owner’s house or visit the mill to see Heritage cotton mill machinery still in action. There is also a temporary exhibition space at the top of the mill which changes frequently.

You could take a short stroll to Styal village to see where the other mill workers lived and tour a worker’s cottage as well as explore the village hub where you can learn all about the living conditions of the workers. Continue along the path to the woods where you can follow one of several paths to wander through the woods. Kids will love playing pooh sticks on the bridge.

Quarry Bank also has stunning gardens and a restored glass house. There is a small play area with a slide, tunnel, swing and climbing frame. This is next to a picnic area. There are 2 shops and a second-hand bookshop. There are always lots of great kids’ activities going on during the school holidays. Everything from welly walks, crafts and storytelling sessions.

Is there food and drink available?

There are 2 cafes. One in the upper garden and one down by the mill. There is also a takeaway snack shop where you can buy delicious ice cream. You can picnic outdoors.

What are the main things to do?

Guided tours of apprentice house, mill to look around, walks, gardens, small play area and kids activities during school holidays. There are toilets and places to eat.

What are the ticket prices?

Free to members of the National Trust. An adult standard ticket for the whole property is just over £20. A child is £10 and under 5’s are free.
Prices are subject to change and/or discounts online.

There is free parking.

When are they open?

Quarry bank is usually open all year apart from Christmas day. For up-to-date opening times please visit their website.
