Things to do at Ribble Steam railway and museum review

The Ribble Steam railway is a standard gauge preserved railway near Preston in Lancashire. It runs along Preston Docks and is home to a collection of railway based items from a previously closed museum in Southport. The line was reopened as a tourist railway in 2005 after it fell into disuse when the docks closed.

They have a large collection of steam engines both indoors and outdoors. The museum houses one of the largest collections in the country. There are many locomotives and vehicles. You can travel through history from 1865 to the early 2000s with their displays and locomotives. There is also a workshop with a viewing area.

The three-mile return trip train ride includes crossing a dock swing bridge which is a unique feature on their line. The journey takes you along the bank of the River Ribble where you can enjoy views of the City of Preston. Mr Ribble’s Family Playground is suitable for children age 2-10 years. It is a relatively new play area with some cute pieces of play equipment.

The railway runs a variety of special events, throughout the year.
