Things to do at Rufford Abbey Country Park review

Rufford Abbey itself is a free to visit attraction maintained by English Heritage. The only charge is to park. It is set in some wonderful parkland which is somewhere that you could easily spend 2-3 hours or more.

As well as the ruin of Rufford Abbey to explore there is often a family-friendly trail available to help you explore the park. These are available from the shop/information centre. The walk mostly goes around a big lake and through some woodlands. Make sure you take some duck food with you and look out for the section of the river near the mill where you can watch cars drive through the water.

You can hire boats on the lake, have a go at archery, or play 9 holes of adventure golf which has some unusual and challenging holes. The adventure play area has been recently upgraded with climbing nets, slides and tunnels. There’s a sand play area, zip wire and more. There are some lovely grounds to explore, including a maze and you may find some sculptures along the way.

Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places still require you to pre-book online in advance.
