Silverdale Glen

Silverdale Glen

The Silverdale Glen is a popular family-friendly destination near Malew on the Isle of Man. The recreational site consists of a small boating lake, a playground with a Victorian water-powered carousel, a cafe and playing fields.

The glen itself follows the Silverburn River for about half a mile and can be accessed from Ballasalla or from a car park off the A3. There are a number of walks to enjoy along the river including a walk that takes you to Rushen Abbey. You can also enjoy a longer walk to Castletown railway station. This passes the Monks Well which was a popular wishing well during the height of mass tourism to the area.

On the lake, you can rent pedalos and the Manx Model Boat Club meets regularly at the lake. The lake was created when the nearby river was dammed for the mill. The mill is now a cafe, gift shop, crafts studio and craft stalls. The waterwheel can now produce electricity for the mill and you will find a small playground close to here. This is what powers the Victorian carousel.
