South Devon Railway

The South Devon Railway is a seven-mile railway journey on the former Great Western Railway branch line that was originally built in 1872. It runs along the stunning valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes.

What can you do at South Devon Railway?

It is the longest-established steam railway in the southwest and they run steam train rides using their heritage rolling stock. You can purchase a ticket to include two additional attractions: Dartmoor otters and Buckfast Butterflies which is located at Buckfastleigh station. Plus Totnes rare breeds farm which is located at the other end of the line adjacent to Totnes Riverside Station. The combined tickets can only be purchased through the South Devon railway.

Also at Buckfastleigh Station, there is a museum children’s play area, gardens and a riverside walk plus free, parking, a cafe, toilets and more. Staverton station has remained largely unchanged for 100 years. There are facilities at the station and riverside walks. The third station on the line is Totnes Riverside station which also has some facilities.
