If you are looking for somewhere truly beautiful and remarkable then St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall is the place for you. I remember going here as a child and the memories have certainly stayed with me. St Michael’s Mount is an island off the coast of Cornwall all the way down near Penzance. It can be accessed on foot according to the tide.

What can you do at St Michael’s Mount Cornwall?

The island is linked to the town of Marazion by a man-made causeway of granite. It is only passable between mid-tide and low water. It is managed by the National Trust and the castle and chapel on the island have been the home of the St Aubyn family since around 1650. Historically it was a Cornish counterpart of Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, France although it is much smaller.

Today you can park in Marazion and walk across the causeway but you will have to check the tide times first before visiting. They are closed in bad weather. The causeway isn’t recommended for pushchairs so opt for a baby carrier if you can.

Their gardens, castle, lawns and village are perfect for young imaginations. You can explore the castle with a variety of historical artefacts. You will need to book a visit to the castle online. You can also look inside the church, and walk to the summit to see the cannons. The gardens are usually open from spring until the end of summer.
