Stanhope Pool
The Stanhope Open Air swimming pool is located in Stanhope near Bishop Auckland, County Durham. It is a community-created charity venture that was first started in 1974. It is one of the few open-air pools remaining in the UK and it is the only heated outdoor swimming pool in County Durham.
Located in the Pennine Hills the pool is maintained by volunteers. It is open seasonally and the pool is 25 x 13m and heated to a toasty 27oC. There is a springboard which means there is a deep end of 3 metres.
For children too young for the main pool there is a smaller pool for them which is heated to the same temperature. It has a small slide and is only half a metre deep.
