The Weardale railway is a heritage railway with 18 miles of line between Bishop Auckland and Stanhope in County Durham.

What is there to do at Weardale Railway?

The line runs from a connection with the main railway network at Bishop Auckland through to Eastgate in the Weardale area of outstanding natural beauty. They run a seasonal, service of heritage passenger trains which is operated over the 16-mile section between Stanhope and Bishop Auckland.

The regular passenger services are operated by a heritage diesel unit with multiple river crossings and fantastic views. They are hoping to reintroduce a steam service in the near future. There are 5 stops along the route and different attractions along the way including walks, a nature reserve and Durham Dales Centre with gardens and a tearoom.

What are the ticket prices?

An adult full-line round trip costs £16 or £9 for a single, children are £9 return or £6 single. Children under 5 are free. Other pricing options are available.
