STEAM Museum of the Great Western Railway

STEAM otherwise known as Swindon Steam Railway Museum is located at the site of the old railway works in Swindon, Wiltshire, The museum opened in 2020 and the site is also home to the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet.
What can you do at the STEAM Museum of the Great Western Railway?
The museum is in a restored Grade II listed railway building. STEAM features engines and rolling stock plus it tells the social story of the railway community in Swindon with recorded personal experiences and archives. There are lifelike exhibits that show people at work. They also have a series of reconstructions of areas of work such as a workshop, an office, a signal box and a foundry.
STEAM is home to around 10 locomotives plus carriages and other equipment. You can try out the interactive signal box and drive a steam train simulator through the museum’s story-telling displays.

An adult ticket costs £10.80, children 3-15 £8. Under 3s are free.

Is there parking?
The main and closest car parking for STEAM is located at the Swindon Designer Outlet North and West Car Parks which are just five minutes’ walk from the museum. If you are using a Sat Nav, please enter ‘Kemble Drive’ for the North car park or ‘Penzance Drive’ for the West car park.
