Thornes Clarence Park is a large public park situated close to the centre of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The park comprises three parks, Thornes Park, Clarence Park and Holmfield Park.

What is there to do at Thornes Clarence Park Wakefield?

Clarence Park was first opened in 1893 and there are many attractions in the park including a bandstand, Pavillion and more. Holmfield is the smallest of the three parks.

Thornes Park is home to a miniature railway, formal gardens, an aviary, a lake, an indoor leisure centre and an athletics track. The park is some 60 hectares in size and there is a two-mile circular walk around the park. In the centre of the park, there is a mound of earth that was once part of an old motte-and-bailey castle which offers views across the city of Wakefield.

There is also a bowling green, tennis courts, a putting green and a pitch and putt. The equipment for these is available from the offices. Thornes Park has a children’s play area with slides, climbing frames, swings and see-saws. There is also a smaller play area for under 5s.

Thornes Park also has a Skate park which features a rail, driveway, jump box, roll-in and more. There is also a walled garden and a conservatory.
