Wildwood Trust Kent

The Wildwood Trust Wildlife Park just outside Canterbury in Kent is about 5 minutes down the road from my house, so we’ve visited quite a few times with our two-year-old daughter. It’s a lot bigger than it first appears, as it’s tucked away in the corner of a car park with quite an inconspicuous entrance. However, once you’re in there’s loads to do and see, and you can easily spend an entire afternoon there. Be warned though, it can get quite muddy so definitely take some wellies if it has been raining recently.

The wildlife park is home to loads of different British wildlife, however, you’ll also come across some creatures from further afield, such as Bisons, Arctic Foxes, and Reindeer – which means it’s a lovely place to visit around Christmas time. The stand-out attraction for our daughter is always two huge brown bears. They’re kept in a large enclosure which you can view from above via a rope bridge. Make sure to catch them at feeding time though, and you’ll get to see them really close up.

There are lots of experiences available too, where you can get closer to the animals, and even get the chance to feed some of them. The park also runs twilight and night tours throughout the year coinciding with the full moon, which includes a hot meal in the restaurant. Following the trail around the park lakes for around an hour, perfect for tired little legs.

Once you’ve seen all the animals, there’s a restaurant where you can have a bite to eat, serving both hot and cold food, and during the summer an ice cream kiosk is open. There are also two play parks for the children – one for the under fives, and one for older kids, which has recently acquired Kent’s biggest drop slide, not that we’ve ventured on that just yet!

The regular entry price is just over £12 for an adult and almost £10 for a child aged 3-17. Under 3’s are free. It is cheaper to visit in the winter.
