Withernsea Lighthouse Museum

Withernsea Lighthouse Museum

The Withernsea Lighthouse Museum is located in the heart of the town of Withernsea, East Yorkshire. It is one of only a handful of lighthouses that were built inland. It is 127 feet high and you can climb to the top and enjoy great views over Withernsea and further afield.

What is there to do at Withernsea Lighthouse Museum?

The lighthouse opened in 1894 and ceased operation in 1976, it is now a museum. It was positioned well back from the seafront due to fears of coastal erosion. The base of the lighthouse features RNLI and HM Coastguard exhibits with models and old photos.

There are 144 steps to the top of the lighthouse. The lamp is no longer there and on a clear day, you can even see the Humber Bridge. There is a live camera feed of the view at the bottom of the tower if you can’t make it to the top. There is a cafe and on a nice day, you can enjoy a quiet moment in their garden.
