The five-star luxury camping and touring haven that is Trevornick holiday park, at stunning Holywell Bay on the rugged north Cornish coast, has introduced swanky new static caravans decked out to the standards of superior family holiday cottages.

New Static Caravans at Trevornick
My hugely excited 7-year-old (Freddie) and I jumped at the chance to try (a three-bedroom) one out after hearing so much about this immaculately manicured 200-acre park just south of surf central Newquay, with its impressive and varied recreational facilities, plus top-notch amenities that rival the best European sites.
We even took Nana and Granddad along, because although avid campers and caravaners in their youth they’re on the wrong side of 80 now – yet these sumptuous 26 statics are ideal for extended family get-togethers because of all the extra comfort, space and luxury provided.
We arrived around midday and although check-in wasn’t till 4 pm we were free to take advantage of the amenities and facilities, as well as the glorious sunshine. The first stop though was the well-equipped Farm Shop for all our staples, plus the obligatory Cornish Pasty for lunch and we all thought it delicious and satisfying.
Suitably refuelled it was straight to the heated, outdoor swimming pool to cool down and catch some rays. With an abundance of sun loungers and high-backed chairs, plus clean, well-maintained changing rooms, it’s ideal for youngsters and elderly alike – and there’s the added bonus of a Tranquillity Spa, which is not exactly standard for a family holiday park.
As the name suggests it’s a holistic haven and retreat specialising in body therapies, beauty treatments, pedicures, manicures and waxing, while there are even specific children’s treats.

Suitably refreshed and relaxed, it was time to check in and then dip into our extensive and highly informative welcome pack. Trevornick’s smart new caravans are generously proportioned and offer modern and inviting décor, plus all the mod cons you could wish for and are positioned on beautifully landscaped tiers with wide-reaching views of Holywell Bay and the sea. Some are even dog-friendly.
They’re all located in a secluded area known as ‘The Cove’ and each static is named after a local landmark and the surrounding area. Ours was No.15 Seal Rock and from the mid ‘Stylish Comfort’ range (the entry range is ‘Laidback Coastal’ and the high-end range is ‘Contemporary Chic’ and there are two and three-bedroom versions, comfortably sleeping four or six, in all ranges).

With a modern country cottage look – think fashionable Shaker style with soft, pastel colour palettes – ours had a real, comfy, homely feel and was spotless and very well presented. The fully equipped kitchen included plenty of branded cookware, crockery, cutlery and glassware, while the plush furnished living area also boasted a large flatscreen TV along with USB charging points and bespoke Wi-Fi access. We even had a private decking area that proved to be the most gorgeous spot to enjoy breakfast.
At Trevornick they don’t charge separately for linen either – duvets, pillows and crisp white bed linen are all provided (just bring towels) plus water, heating, electricity, Wi-Fi and a parking area for two cars are all included in the price.

Having moved in it was time for tea and we decided upon Woody’s surf-themed Restaurant and it didn’t disappoint. Our Rump and Gammon Steaks from the grill were cooked to perfection and the portions were well above average, plus the little one’s menu offers freshly prepared and cooked versions of all their favourites and Freddie’s Jumbo Cod Finger was so big I had to finish it!

We also enjoyed (out on the terrace overlooking Holywell Bay Golf Course and the iconic Gulls Rocks) Korev Cornish lager and some excellently kept local ales in Trelawny and Tribute, while Freddie really appreciated the Frobisher’s range of freshly pressed juices. The perfect sunset over the bay capped off a truly wonderful day and sent us home very happy.

Trevornick boasts an envious location, right next to the sandy dunes that lead to the National Trust Holywell Bay beach – one of the most stunning in the region, dog-friendly year-round and the setting for much of period drama smash Poldark. So, day two was a saltwater celebration and although you can walk it in 10-15 minutes, we parked directly opposite the beach in the NT car park to save the grandparent’s legs.

Rockpooling, beach boules, sand sculptures and wave hopping made for endless fun, while there were also people taking advantage of surfing lessons, stand-up paddle boarding, kite flying, sand boarding and coasteering.
Freddie even decided he wanted to be a lifeguard when he grows up after having a guided tour of the RNLI’s impressively kitted-out beach buggy.
Absolutely famished from all that sea air, we called in at Fodder’s Restaurant on the way back to the caravan. It has more of a family café vibe and all drinks are bottled rather than on draught, but we all devoured a sharing sea platter comprising cod and hake chunks, tiger prawns, calamari and scampi, accompanied with garlic mayo and Hollandaise. My first taste of Rattler Cornish cider was also memorable, although at 6% it’s best to have only a few.

Freddie summoned up some energy to explore the adjacent adventure playground and soft play area afterwards, but we all slept like proverbial logs, snuggled up in our comfy, cosy beds.

Their Crazy Golf is one of the most fun we’ve ever played and the Bubblegum and Salted Caramel cornet that Freddie enjoyed at Daisy’s Ice Cream Parlour was the best he’s ever tasted – and he’s got some experience in that field let me tell you!

Our final evening meal was Spaghetti Bolognese back at the caravan, but we could easily have been tempted by the tasty new takeaway vans at Trevornick – Ansum Food on Fridays cooking wood-fired pizzas, El Huichol on Thursdays and their Mexican style tacos, plus Katie’s Hot Pots on Tuesdays serving up homemade curries.

Trevornick provides a fun-filled, outdoor family holiday like no other and their salubrious statics are the perfect way to enjoy all it has to offer in even more style and comfort. Ideal for adventurous escapes and romantic getaways too, it’s little wonder their heartfelt motto is “everyday extraordinary” and this is truly personified by their friendly and attentive staff, for whom nothing is too much trouble. We’re already saving to go back very soon!
