For the first four nights of our nine-night holiday to Gran Canaria, we stayed at The Marina Suites, Puerto Rico 4 star aparthotel. There are many different websites (including their own) that you can book through. We found our best price on Jet2.com After some careful consideration we chose to book half board and we were not disappointed by this choice. In fact, it is one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed in. The Marina Suites Puerto Rico is a mid-priced hotel. If you click on a link in this piece, we may earn affiliate revenue.

Marina Suites Aparthotel Puerto Rico Review

As a family with 1 young child, we are somewhat restricted with where we book as we like to have two bedrooms or one bedroom with a lounge. The Marina Suites Gran Canaria is an Aparthotel, the room we booked had a stunning harbour with sea view, 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds, a large bathroom, a lounge area with a sofa bed and kitchenette, plus a lovely large balcony with seating and a table.

The hotel is incredibly stylish and modern and is just a 5-10 minutes walk to the beach – 5 minutes for adults…5 minutes extra with a 3-year-old in tow!

Each room has its own wifi access which ran like a dream. We also had satellite TV in the lounge and a large fridge in the kitchenette. Our room had aircon but we didn’t need to use it. There is a gym and spa facilities. Why not have your toes munched at by some fish?

Marina Suites Aparthotel is up there with the best hotel myself and my husband have ever stayed at. We couldn’t have asked for more. It was lovely to be able to share such a fabulous hotel with our boy for his first holiday abroad (for more than 3 nights!).

We spent many an hour sitting on the balcony watching the changing light of our stunning view and seeing all the different types of boats coming in and out of the harbour. The balcony didn’t get the sun until late afternoon but it didn’t make the room or balcony cold and it was winter while we were there.

Marina Suites has a small pool for children. The first time we went by the pool there were many children’s toys to play with in the water. The pool temperature was just bearable, but it was late January when we were there.

Our son adored playing with the boats and even managed to cope with sharing and not thinking they were all his. But sadly there weren’t many other toys on the other days….no clue why! If I was going to be critical it was slightly frustrating that the pool toilets were so far away, especially from the family area.

The main pool is not far from the kiddies pool and it is a stunning infinity pool looking out to sea. There is also a smaller section with water jets and seats. It took a little bit of persuading to try the slightly colder bigger pool but once in Jamie had a great time swimming about.

Because we were half board we truly got to experience the food at Marina Suites. The first meal we had there was in their restaurant. After a long day travelling, it was just what we needed. They have 2 dinner settings, each being a buffet. Top tip – if you like it cool get there early and ask for a table where the fans are. The heat coming off the buffet was too much for us.

What a buffet it was. The choice was really top-quality food cooked in a way you’d expect from a top restaurant. The major draw for me was how healthy the starters and main courses all appeared to be. You could even have pasta dishes made quickly for you and various meats cooked while you wait.

The little one’s favourite thing had to be the fact there were sweets on the dessert buffet. We had three happy dinners. You can enjoy a drink in their modern sea-themed bar before, or after, dinner.

Breakfast was in their outside buffet area near the pool. They have heaters to sit next to if it’s cool. Again the choice was fabulous. Cereal, breads, pancakes, hot food (prepared eggs and omelette), fresh fruit, meats, cheese, freshly squeezed OJ, the list goes on.

There is a kids club on site with a small outdoor playground, we never seemed to have the time to pay a visit. Every night while we were there they had some sort of entertainment on, mostly from 8 pm. One night we went to their BBQ night and there was a Spanish band from 7 pm on the stage next to us. The food was so good we also ate there a couple of times for our lunch. There is a sit-down menu at lunch, the food was excellent and reasonably priced.

If we ever return to Gran Canaria then we will most certainly return to the Marina Suites in Puerto Rico.

About Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is one of a few specially constructed holiday resorts situated in the south of the island. The scenery is rugged with hills all around. In the port itself, you can take many different boat trips, such as fishing boats, glass bottom ferries, dolphin and whale watching and there’s even a pirate ship. The south of the island, where Puerto Rico is situated has the best climate, especially in winter with temperatures averaging around 20-25oC.

There is a fair-sized sandy beach, you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas for the day.

There is the usual variety of places to eat on the beach and around Puerto Rico. We visited a couple of beach bars and both were fairly priced. There are also some tourist shops on the other side of the road. There is a very handy Spar located to the east of the beach.
