Cleethorpes is a relatively large seaside town on the Lincolnshire coast. Although there are a few things to do in Cleethorpes none of them are attractions where you would normally spend 2 hours or more. Because of this, I have written this guide so that you can choose things to do in Cleethorpes on a day visit so that you can spend more than 2 hours in the town / nearby.
Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway
Average time of visit – up to 1 hour. Indoors
The award-winning Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway is one of Britain’s oldest seaside miniature railways and has been delighting old and young alike for generations. Sit back and enjoy a two-mile return journey along the picturesque Humberside Coast, behind one of our historic steam or diesel locomotives. They have special event days including days out with Thomas. Admission charges apply – may not be open all year round. Find out more.
Lollipop Train

The Lollipop Land Train is one of Cleethorpe’s best-loved attractions. It is a small local family-run firm owned by Mr Borge Nejrup. They are wheelchair and pushchair-friendly. Dogs are welcome on a short lead. Take an enjoyable fun ride along the seafront offering scenic views of the beach, sea and beautiful flower beds.
The train runs every 30 minutes following a route from the north promenade, near the 2016 award-winning pier, linking up with the light railway near the leisure centre.
The Magical Castle Soft Play
Average time of visit – up to 2 hours. Indoors
Located on the Cleethorpes Seafront, The Magical Castle offers a range of indoor play facilities created for children of all ages. Inside you will find a large four-storey play frame with monkey bars, a hamster wheel, balance beams, a bouncy castle, dizzy discs, a ball pool with a ball blower, tunnels and slides including the “Black Hole” tunnel slide (only for the brave!). Cleethorpes Boating Lake

Located near Cleethorpes Light Coast Railway you will find Cleethorpes boating lake in the south of the town. On the lake, you can hire a boat or a pedalo. There is a shipwreck adventure playground plus a big sandpit for the kids and a discovery centre. There is also a paddling pool which is open 10 am to 5.30 pm daily during the summer season. Plus it’s free! The only thing you pay for is the hire of boats or pedalos.
Cleethorpes Beach

The beach at Cleethorpes is vast and sandy with the tide rarely coming in enough to cover the sand. In the summer you can expect donkey rides. You won’t find stretches of arcades along the promenade on Cleethorpes beach.
Mystery Treasure Trail Cleethorpes

Why not explore Cleethorpes on this self-guided Murder Mystery-themed Treasure Trail? As you follow the Trail route, can you solve the sneaky clues set on existing buildings, permanent features and monuments to eliminate the suspects to discover whodunit? The Trail starts at the Tourist Information Centre on Alexandra Road and takes you on a circular route via Sea View, St Peter’s Avenue and High Street. The route then leads you down to the pier, along the seafront and through the pleasant gardens of this old fishing village and health resort. Trail costs £9.99 and is available all year round.

The swimming pool at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre has a wave machine, aqua slide and adjoining toddler/baby pool. They also run fun family-friendly inflatable sessions in the pool. Find out more.

Crazy Golf is located at Pier Gardens Cleethorpes.
Cleethorpes Pier

Cleethorpes Pier was built in the late 1800s. At the closest end, it now houses Papa’s Fish and Chip restaurant. You can also walk to the end of the pier although there is not much there.

Time Trap Museum, Grimsby

Time Trap Museum is a former town hall & jail featuring unique historical exhibits in prisoner cells and narrow corridors. It will take you on a time travel journey to uncover the town’s colourful past. As you pass through dark, twisting corridors you will be able to explore mysterious nooks and crannies and make your way up and down winding stairs. You will discover the town’s treasures as you piece together the jigsaw that reveals how Grimsby developed. Admission charges apply. They are open Monday to Friday, except on bank holidays.
