Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre

Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre

Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre is a great family-friendly museum. It is a multi-award-winning attraction that transports you back to the 1950s, back to the heyday of this Lincolnshire fishing port.

They have some wonderfully crafted sets that help show life back then with an original preserved trawler boat. You will experience what it was like to be a crew member and you will travel in their footsteps leaving your 1950s Grimsby home for a trip on the perilous Arctic fishing grounds and back home to the free, man’s Arms public house. The sights, sounds, smells and drama will leave you with a new respect for the men who pitted themselves against the elements to bring home their catch.

The museum is also home to paintings, ship models, fishing-related objects, customers and much more. They also have three changing exhibition galleries. You can also tour the MFB Ross Tiger diesel engine side trawler. It is in a permanent mooring outside the centre. The tour offers a unique opportunity to see first-hand what it was like to be aboard a trawler in what was often described as Britain’s most dangerous job.
