Filey Beach

Filey is a seaside resort on the Yorkshire coast. It is a lot less commercialised than some of its neighbours and it’s a great place to spend the day. Like a lot of the beaches, in the area, most of the sand does get covered at high tide.

Things to do at Filey Beach

For most of the time, there is a vast sandy beach. The sea can be pretty fierce here even on a bad weather day in July. If you head north along the promenade there is usually a pebbly section, even when the tide is in, next to Filey Brigg.

Filey Brigg is a headland which you can walk along and down to the beach (at low tide). There is also a playground next to the car park for the country park.

The seafront at Filey is long and stretches from the Brigg right down to the southern end where you will find a cafe, shop and if you walk up the hill there is the lovely Glen Gardens park with lots of different things for kids to do either for free, or very cheaply. There is also a couple of mini-golf courses nearby.

Along the main promenade section, you will find a paddling pool, crazy golf and further down some amusements. Kids will love to see the big RNLI boat along here and there’s also a few fishing boats.

Is there food and drink available?

There are a couple of small cafes and kiosks along the seafront. There are restaurants and pubs if you head more inland towards the centre.

What are the main things to do?

Large sandy beach with things to do close by including crazy golf, paddling pool, playgrounds, amusements. There are public toilets and places to purchase food and drinks.

Is there parking?

There is parking nearby and there may be a charge to park.

When are they open?

The beach is open all year round.

Dog friendly?

Dogs are restricted to certain areas on this beach from May 1st to September 30th.

Are they accessible?

Some of the ramps down to the beach are difficult to access with a wheelchair.
