Segedunum Roman Fort is located in Wallsend, Tyne and Wear. It is a fort that lay at the eastern end of Hadrian’s Wall near the banks of the River Tyne. An impressive feature is the 8.5ft Roman Centurion sculpture that is made of steel.

What is there to do at Segedunum Roman Fort?

For 300 years it was used as a garrison from around 122 AD. The fort today is the most excavated fort along the wall. It has surviving foundations of many buildings and part of the wall itself. There is a large interactive museum plus full-scale reconstructions of a bath house and a section of Wall.

Also on-site there is a 35-metre-high viewing tower that provides outstanding views across this World Heritage Site. There is an audio tour which you can download on your phone and take around the site with you. They run a wide range of events, including themed family days.

There is a cafe although it is currently closed. You are welcome to picnic outdoors.
