Flamborough Head and Lighthouse
No guide to things to do in the UK would be complete without including one of the most beautiful places to visit. Flamborough Head in East Yorkshire is stunning and it’s somewhere I’ve been visiting for many years.
What can you do at Flamborough Head and Lighthouse?
Flamborough head itself has white cliffs all around and the head itself looks down onto views of these cliffs and the sea. You can take the steep walk down from here to the north beach. Try to time your visit with the tide being out as then there is more to explore such as caves and rock pools. (do be wary of the tide at all times).
Back on the cliff, you have a great vantage point looking down on nesting birds, you might even spot a puffin at the right time of year. You can walk as far as you like along the cliff edge, it does erode in places so don’t walk too close to the edge.
Flamborough Lighthouse has limited opening times throughout the year. It is still a working lighthouse that can be seen for miles around and was built in 1806. When it is open guided tours run every 30 minutes. The tour of the lighthouse lasts for around 20 minutes and you experience some wonderful views from the top.
Children must be 1.1 metres to be able to visit the Lighthouse and there are 119 steps to the top. If you take a walk on the headland, spend some time down on the north beach and visit the lighthouse you will easily spend a few hours at Flamborough Head.
