Knightshayes

Last Updated on March 14, 2024 by Suzy McCullough

Knightshayes is a National Trust property near Tiverton, Devon. The Victorian country house is surrounded by acres of glorious gardens and parkland. It was designed by William Burges for the Heathcoat-Armory family.

What can you do at Knightshayes?

The gardens are home to one of the most outstanding botanical collections in the country. There are hidden glades and pathways leading to far-reaching views of the Exe Valley. Plus 300 acres of woodland and parkland. Home to Exmoor horn sheep, wild red deer and an adventure playground.

The play area was created using four fallen trees that were the victim of some of the worst storm damage the estate had seen. The play area includes a treehouse and tunnels bored into the trunks. It sits at the bottom of the drive so it is free, to access for everyone. You can explore the Gothic revival house which is stunning inside and out. The house is full of historical artefacts and is a great place to explore.
