Paxto House is a historic house in Paxton, Berwickshire on the Scottish Borders. It is a few miles south-west of Berwick-upon-Tweed overlooking the River Tweed. It is a neo-Palladian Georgian mansion set in 80 acres of woodland, gardens and parkland with a play park and boat trips.

What is there to do at Paxton House?

Paxton House is full of treasures and everyone of all ages is made welcome, even the dog. You can learn more about the house on a house tour. There is also an art gallery and Scotland’s only surviving 18th-century waterwheel and beam pump.

Within the grounds, families can take part in one of their trails including wildlife spotting and testing of your navigational skills. They even have a fairy trail and there are many walks to suit even the youngest adventurer. There is an adventure playground with a giant zip wire, swings, slide and a jingly jangly bridge. Natural play is encouraged with den building in the woodland.

You can also take an idyllic and relaxing boat ride up the River Tweed and learn about the wildlife and local history from one of their knowledgeable skippers. The boat trips run from Paxton house upstream to the Old Quarry, towards Horncliffe. The trip takes approximately one hour and there is an additional charge to your entrance ticket.
