Things to do at Saltburn Miniature Railway review

Saltburn-by-the-sea in North Yorkshire has a 15 inch gauge railway. The railway first opened in 1947 as a tourist attraction. The line runs south from Cat Nab Station (by the beach) for about 1/2 mile inland to Forest Halt where there is a woodland walk and gardens. It is listed as one of the country’s most famous railways.

The railway passes beside Skelton Beck and passes through grassland where there are picnics area and a play areas. You can take a short walk over the bridge to the Italian gardens and Victoria tea rooms. You can stay on for the return journey but where’s the fun in that.

The trains usually start running at 1 pm although can sometimes be a little earlier. If the ‘Trains Running Today’ signs aren’t out then you can assume the trains are not running today. If you don’t stop for a wander around the gardens a return journey will take around 20 minutes.

Covid 19 – Please check the website or social media of an attraction before visiting. Many places may be open differently and some remain closed. Reviews do not mention all of these changes or possible price changes. Most places still require you to pre-book online in advance.
