Shire Hall Museum

Museum Overview

Shire Hall Museum is located in Dorchester, Dorset. It brings over 200 years of justice and injustice to life. It is an immersive museum that enables visitors to walk in the footsteps of the people whose lives were changed forever in the historic courts.

The museum uncovers moving and important stories of everyday people’s interactions with the justice system since the late 18th century. There are interactive galleries, immersive cells and the courtroom itself. You can discover more about the everyday people who were tried and sentenced at the court using interactive multi-media guides.

Kids will love dressing up in wigs, gowns and hats to play the part. You can see where people were held before being brought to trial and how the Tolpuddle Martyrs were separated from their families and sentenced to transportation to Australia.
