The Snowdon Mountain Railway is the ultimate in bucket list experiences. It has been described as one of the most beautiful railway journeys in the world. Trains depart from Llanberis in North Wales and take you to the summit of Snowdon. The track is 4.7 miles in length.

What is there to do at Snowdon Mountain Railway

There are two services. The first is the diesel service that takes you 3/4 of the way up Mount Snowdon stopping at Clogwyn station. They also offer a heritage steam service that is now running again. The journey time on the diesel trains to Clogwyn station is approximately 45 minutes. There is a stop-over of 30 minutes before returning on the same train.

The Heritage Steam experience is pushed by an original Swiss steam locomotive from 1896 with accurate re-constructed carriages. The trains seat just 34 passengers with a central aisle. There is an average of three departures a day leaving Llanberis from May until the end of September (weather permitting). These trains top at Hafod Eryri the Summit Visitor Centre.

The Summit Visitor Centre is now open again. It is the highest visitor centre in the UK and on a clear day, you can enjoy views that stretch as far as Ireland. During your 30-minute stopover, you can venture to the cairn of the highest mountain in Wales and England, 1085m above sea level.
