Wengen Ski Resort For Families

Surrounded by the dramatic Jungfrau mountains Wengen is the perfect destination for a family skiing holiday. It oozes swiss charm and there are plenty of family-friendly activities. The resort is quiet and car-free filled with chalets and traditional hotels. 

The slopes are mainly wide blues and easy reds with the Lauberhorn piste, the longest downhill Word Cup course in the world for experienced skiers. A trip on the Jungfraujoch railway is a muse for all ages where you can explore Europe’s highest station with tunnels and sculptures in the ice palace. 

Silberhorn Hotel and Spa – Wengen Switzerland

Right in the resort centre, just a 1-minute walk from the ski school is the Silberhorn Hotel and Spa. The railway station is also just a 1-minute walk away. 

One of the hotel’s highlights is its spa with floor-to-ceiling windows that have views of the Jungfrau mountain from the hot tub, sauna and loungers. Their south-facing rooms also have views of the mountain.

Alpine Hotel Wengen – Wengen, Switzerland

Just a 1-minute walk away from the cable car is the Alpine Hotel Wengen. It is also just a 5-minute walk to the train station and nursery slope plus a 2-minute walk to the ski school meeting point. 

The hotel is also located on Wengen’s pedestrianised main street. Facilities-wise there is an indoor swimming pool plus a sauna and a steam room. For children, there is a playroom and all the family can enjoy a weekly entertainment programme with live music most evenings.

Grindelwald Ski Resort For Families

Grindelwald is a traditional Swiss Village with world-famous mountain views and excellent winter facilities. The Eiger mountain is the village’s backdrop and the skiing is easygoing with long blues and gentle reds. 

Taking the train up the Jungfraujoch is a must when staying here and there is also a climbing wall, swimming pool and a giant zipline. The ski area has plenty for experienced skiers and those just starting out. For beginners, there are nursery areas and a slow-skiing zone. 

Sunstar Hotel Grindelwald – Grindelwald, Switzerland

Right opposite the Firstbahn gondola is the Sunstar Hotel Grindelwald. It is a popular hotel in a great location with high-quality accommodation. The hotel is just a 3-minute walk from the resort centre and a 2-minute walk to the ski school meeting point. 

Leisure facilities include an excellent health spa with an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, relaxation baths, a fitness room and beauty treatments. You can relax in the lounge after a day on the pistes by the log fire and surrounded by piano music.

The hotel runs a free shuttle to and from the train station on your transfer days. They have twin rooms and superior twin rooms which can sleep up to 3 people.

Saas-Fee Ski Resort For Families

Here the skiing is set above the charming village of Saas-Fee. It is an Alpine village with some of the most snowsure slopes in Europe due to its high altitude. You can also enjoy views of the peaks from the highest revolving restaurant, the Piz Gloria, which was the main filming location for the James Bond film ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.’ After your visit, there is the Ice Cave Allalin next door with sculptures carved from ice. 

There are reds and blues for intermediates and if you are just starting out there is a separate nursery slope next to the village. Public cars aren’t allowed in the resort so the streets are nice and quiet although the locals still like a party. 

Allalin Hotel – Saas-Fee, Switzerland

Located in the heart of the action on the main car-free street is the Allalin Hotel. Right outside the hotel, there is a ski bus stop and it is a 5-minute walk to the resort centre. The nursery slopes and ski school meeting point are a 10-minute walk away.

The hotel combines traditional wood furnishing and contemporary Swiss design. Bedrooms are modern and each has a balcony. Their quad rooms can sleep up to 4 people. Facilities include a sauna, bar and lounge plus a heated ski and boot room at the Alpin Express lift.

Zermatt Ski Resort For Families

Quite the picture-postcard town Zermatt is a popular destination for high-altitude skiing beneath the Matterhorn mountain. There are linked blues and reds for skiing plus wide-open glacier skiing. A trip over the mountain on a glass-bottomed cable car is a must for the views alone. 

There are horse-drawn sleigh rounds in the town with luxurious hotels and shops. You can also visit the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise for 360-degree views and you can even go inside it to see snow sculptures and centuries-old ice formations. There is a ski school for beginners and also a few practice areas. 

Hotel Alpen Resort – Zermatt, Switzerland

The Hotel Alpen Resort is modern yet cosy. It is just a 5-minute walk away from the centre of Zermatt and the ski lifts. There is a ski bus stop 1 minute away and the ski school meeting point is at the top of the Sunnegga funicular which is a 5 minute walk away. 

Bedrooms are simple and spacious with traditional decor. Some of the bedrooms enjoy views of the Matterhorn. This hotel has an indoor adventure pool, a hot tub, a steam room and a sauna.

Children are well catered for with a large games room complex with lots of sports equipment. This includes table tennis, table football and badminton.
