The castle guards the entrance to the Ceiriog Valley. There is a two-level dungeon, medieval garderobes (toilets) and even murder holes.

Walks include a woodland walk, an Old golf walk, a Battle of Crogen circular walk and a Llwyn y cil walk that enjoys some fabulous views towards the Cheshire and Shropshire plains.
The castle itself has been occupied virtually continuously for almost 700 years. It sits on a hilltop and enjoys some amazing views. Many of its occupants have left behind lavish interiors including a 17th-century long gallery, a grand 18th-century saloon with rich tapestries, a servant’s hall, a library and more. The award-winning gardens cover 5.5 acres of manicured lawns with plants and borders. There are two play areas, the Home Farm play area and a wild play area.
