Christmas is a time for young and old to come together and make memories that will last a lifetime. For younger children, it is about the excitement of waiting for the man in red himself to come down the chimney or sneak in through the front door and bring gifts. In the build-up to Christmas Day, it’s always been a tradition for us to meet Santa somewhere. We have a number of posts on our website to help you find a great Christmas Event near you.

As children get older the build-up to Christmas is about keeping the magic alive and still enjoying the fun and festive events that make Christmas what it is. This could be through visiting a Christmas light trail, visiting a Christmas Market or attending an event with a younger sibling. There are a number of amazing Christmas events to choose from.

One of our favourite Christmas Events when our son was younger was when we went on the Polar Express Christmas Train Ride. There are a number of these events that take place every year in the UK and they are great fun. The whole experience follows the story from the popular film including hot, hot, hot chocolate, a meet and greet with Santa and lots of fun characters. We have a post that highlights all the Polar Express train rides in the UK. There are also a great number of Santa Special Train Rides.

You could make a weekend of it and stay over somewhere to enjoy a Christmas Event further away from home. In the past, we have been to the light trail at Blenheim Palace in Oxford, met Santa at Sundown Adventureland in Nottinghamshire and so many other wonderful Christmas experiences. One of our favourites is the Winter Illuminations at Stockeld Park. There is so much to do there including meeting Santa.

This year as my son is getting older we are staying down in London one weekend and attending one of the best Christmas light trails at Kew Gardens. Then nearer to Christmas we are attending a Christmas Light Trail closer to home at East Park in Hull.

There is such a great number of Christmas Events that happen every year in England. We have a number of lists that cover the bigger events and each list is brought together by region such as Yorkshire, the West Midlands and the South East

Of course, the ultimate Christmas Experience is to meet Santa in Lapland. The UK has their own version of this but for us, a visit to Lapland simply can not be beaten. We made such lasting memories and of course, the addition of snow is a real bonus.

You can visit Lapland without breaking the bank too much. Or you can go all out and have the ultimate experience with Santa’s Lapland. The whole experience is magical from start to end and we loved our accommodation at Santa’s Star Arctic Hotel
