There is so much to do in Lincolnshire. If you’d like further information about any of the attractions below please search my website as I have a full post dedicated to most of the places you can visit below.

All prices are subject to change. Please check websites for opening times and prices before you leave. Remember that a lot of attractions offer discounts when booking online in advance. This list took a huge amount of time and effort and some of the text has been copied over from some of the attraction’s websites. 

This is mostly because I have not been able to visit all of these places so I wanted to stay true to the attraction. Enjoy 🙂 Can you believe there are actually over 200 great family-friendly things to do in Lincolnshire? Never be short of a day out.

Action / Racing

Cadwell Park

Cadwell Park is a motor racing circuit. They have a variety of racing events throughout the year. From rally cars to British superbike championships. Prices vary. More About Cadwell Park

Skegness Raceway

Skegness Stadium is a short circuit tarmac oval racing circuit used for stock car and banger racing. Racing is held at the weekends from March to November and features different events. There is a large covered grandstand area and parking facilities. Additionally, there is a viewing area that allows the public to view from their cars. Prices vary. More about Skegness Raceway

Beaches

Anderby Creek

A lovely quiet beach that stretches on and on. There is a café and toilets near the beach. Don’t visit here expecting amusements. This is a getaway from it all beach. Parking is free at the beach.

Chapel St Leonards

A quaint holiday village near another of Lincolnshire’s sandy beaches. There are amusements, restaurants, shops and pubs.

Cleethorpes

Ride on the Lollipop train from one end of Cleethorpes to the other. Go boating on the boating lake. Visit the jungle zoo or take a ride on a steam train at Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway.

Huttoft

Also known as Mogg’s Eye Beach. Huttoft is another quiet beach with sand dunes. There is a car park, which has space for 150 cars. There are also toilets and a good picnic area.

Mablethorpe

My favourite of all the beaches. Catch the famous sand train up to Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary. Head back down to the main sandy beach for rides, amusements, donkeys, crazy golf and more. Skegness

Skegness is the biggest and the busiest of all the villages/towns on the Lincolnshire coastline. There is plenty to do here. There’s an aquarium, amusements, rides, donkeys, soft play, bowling, a pier and more.

Sutton-on-sea

There is a paddling pool and playground near the beach. The place itself isn’t massive but it’s a nice beach to visit. They have beach huts to rent along the front and they have a beach hut festival every year.

Boat Trips

Brayford Belle, Lincoln

You can take a 50-60 minute boat cruise from Brayford waterfront in Lincoln. We have been on the cruise ourselves and it’s a pleasant journey along the canal. We enjoyed nosing at the houseboats. Cruises run from Spring until late summer. You can purchase refreshments on board and there is a toilet. Adults are £7.00, Children £4.00 and a family ticket is £19.00. – Find Out More.

Grantham Canal Three Ships

You can enjoy a privately chartered cruise along one of Britain’s most beautiful canals. You can choose between a 2, 3 or 4-hour cruise. The cruise boat can accommodate up to 10 people and there is a toilet on board. Prices are for up to 10 people on a boat.

Oliver Boat Trips, Lincoln

Boat trips run throughout the day from Brayford Wharf East, opposite the Lincolnshire Echo office. Incorporating many views of Lincoln. Including the Glory Hole which is renowned for its Stokes Coffee House. The trip goes through the heart of historic Lincoln City, to one of the most talked about features, s stamp end lock, a guillotine lock.

Spalding, Water Taxi

The water taxi links Springfields Outlet Shopping & Festival Gardens to Spalding Town Centre. It’s a relaxing 30-minute cruise. In Spalding, the stop is a centrally convenient town centre embarkation point. The water taxi runs from early April until early October.

Tenpin Bowling

Ancaster Karting

The karting clubhouse has a 6-lane bowling alley. There is also a bar, café and games area. You can book online.

Ashby Bowl Scunthorpe

Family-run, independent bowling alley located in the heart of Ashby, Scunthorpe. A leisure complex consisting of 12 bowling lanes, a cafe, a fully licensed bar, a pool lounge, air hockey, various arcade games and so much more. There is a variety of pricing options. Find out more

Boston Bowl

See more about Boston Bowl in the soft play section below. Boston Bowl is located on the outskirts of Boston. They have 12 bowling lanes with special moonlight bowling sessions. There is no pricing available on their website, this could do with updating. There is an American diner on site plus other facilities.

Cleethorpes Bowling Alley

The bowling alley at Cleethorpes has 16 bowling lanes a bar and a snack bar. They have hourly rates and single-game rates.

Grantham Bowl

This has a recently refurbished 12-lane bowling alley including an American-style Diner, Jaks. There is also a laser storm here and the fun farm (see soft play). Find out more

Lincoln Bowl – Now Hollywood Bowl

Lincoln Bowl has a restaurant on site and you don’t have to bowl to eat there, they also have a games arcade. Find out more

Mirage Mablethorpe

Their website doesn’t seem to exist but according to their Facebook Page, they are still up and running. The bowling lanes have been recently upgraded at the Mirage. They have a variety of offers regarding prices for bowling. There is a café on site, soft play (see soft play below) and amusements. Find out more

Scunthorpe Bowl

Scunthorpe Bowl offers a modern family-friendly tenpin bowling experience with state-of-the-art facilities including the ball rolling ramps and the pop-up gutter. Check their website for special offers, especially mid-week. Find out more

Skegness Bowl

Located within Skegness Pier you will find Skegness Bowl, amusements and more (see soft play). It includes a Hollywood bar and a diner. They have a variety of pricing options including glow bowling. Find out more

Cinemas

Kinema in the Woods, Woodhall Spa

The Kinema in the Woods dates back to 1922 and is a little gem. There are two screens with a fabulous old-fashioned interior. In screen 1 an organist often comes up out of the floor during the interval. They show as many new releases as possible and often show old classics. Loewen, Mablethorpe

A modern 2-screen cinema in Mablethorpe. Showing all the latest blockbusters and digital 3D releases.

Odeon, Lincoln

State-of-the-art cinema on Brayford Waterfront in Lincoln. All the latest films are shown here in 2D and 3D where available. They have some great weekend family deals. Find out more

Parkway, Cleethorpes

9-screen cinema complex in Cleethorpes. There is a bar on site and they show all the recent releases. Tickets are £8.00 per adult and £6.60 per child. Find out more

Playhouse, Louth

This is a small cinema run by Parkway Cinemas also runs the cinema complex in Cleethorpes. Find out more

South Holland Centre, Spalding

Located in the centre of Spalding this cinema has live shows and workshops. There is 1 screen and they show most new releases. They can play 3D films.

Tower, Skegness

The Tower is a 2-screen cinema which has a classic cinema exterior. The interior is modern and they show recent blockbusters.

West End, Boston

This cinema in Boston shows all the latest releases. For now, work has recently started on this cinema to upgrade it and turn it into a Savoy cinema. They have discounted family-friendly weekend ticket prices.

Escape Rooms

Escape, Skegness pier

This is a new, fun, challenging activity in Skegness Pier. You are locked in a mysterious escape room and you have 60 minutes to get out. For groups of 2-6, you and your team must solve many puzzles, riddles, brain teasers and identify clues. It is recommended for children 10 and over to adults.

Tenison exit games, Lincoln

Recommended for ages 14 and up and typically played in groups of 2-5. You have 60 minutes to complete one of two missions. You will need to solve puzzles within a themed room.

Farm Parks / Animals / Birds etc

Ark Wildlife Park

This is a rescue zoo with many exotic animals. There are daily animal encounters and they have all sorts of animals I’ve not heard of before. The park is quite small. There is an outdoor playground, activity barn, dinosaurs and indoor and outdoor animals. There is a café on site and they offer animal experiences at an extra cost. Find out more

Baytree Owl and Wildlife Centre, Spalding

Located within Baytree Garden they have flying displays from March until September with 3 to 4 birds and lasts for about 40 minutes. (1 display a day). Or you can book a variety of experience days. Find out more

Bransby Horses

Bransby Horses is one of the UK’s largest equine welfare charities; dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitation, rehoming and providing a safe haven. It is free to visit although they do welcome donations. There is a café and a playground for the kids. You are able to walk around the paddocks and into a stable to see their horses and donkeys. They have adoption days, pony grooming and children’s craft days. Find out more

Claythorpe Watermill and Wildfowl Gardens

Open from mid-March until the end of October. Set within pretty grounds surrounding the mill. The mill now houses a café and there’s a walk around their animal and bird cages. If you cross the road you will find a woodland play area. Find out more

Hall Farm Park

Situated on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Hall farm park is a small family-run farm park. It is a working farm with lots to see and do. They have a magical woodland walk, animals outdoors and in, crazy golf and go-karts. Plus outdoor adventure play and an indoor play barn. There is a cafe on-site. Find out more

Hardy’s Animal Farm

Located in Ingoldmells near Skegness. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor animals and play areas plus a café. The farm is really good value for money. Find out more

Lincolnshire Wildlife Park

Formerly the Parrot Zoo this wildlife park does still have a large focus on parrots. You can purchase monkey nuts to feed their many and mostly rescued parrots and macaws. There’s a really fun walk-in aviary with smaller birds that love to land on you.

They now have many other animals including tigers with a newly installed enclosure. There is a café where you can sit next to some reptiles plus a recently installed adventure playground. Find out more

Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary and Wildlife Park

The Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary and Wildlife Centre is a visitor attraction featuring primates, reptiles, birds, seals and much more. It is a relatively small place and you mostly follow a one-way system around the enclosures. They have a wide variety of animals and there are many informative signs. Find out more

Natureland Seal Sanctuary Skegness

At Natureland you can see the various stages of rescued seals rehabilitation and hear about the rescue work at feeding times. They also have other animals such as penguins, butterflies, crocodiles and more. It is a small attraction with a café onsite. Find out more

Pink Pig Farm

Located on the outskirts of Scunthorpe. The farm park has a small selection of animals. There are two outdoor play areas including a sledge-type run and a fun duck race. They have coin-operated go-karts and a mud play kitchen. Indoors there is a small soft play area and a café. There is also a café located in the farm shop. Find out more

Radcliffe Donkey Sanctuary

Situated out at Huttoft this donkey sanctuary is free to visit. It does, however, rely on donations. The sanctuary is closed in January and February and most weeks after this it is just open on Saturdays. It is always recommended to ring before leaving home to check they are open. The sanctuary also has a few ponies. Find out more

Rand Farm

Rand farm near Market Rasen is often adding new facilities. This year they have added a new animal barn and an indoor air canon shooting arena. They also have an indoor play barn, sandpit and pedal tractors and play pods. Outside you will find more animals with plenty more play areas including a Skyrider, sledges, trampolines and much more. They have many events throughout the year. Find out more

Rushmoor country park

This farm park is quite small however there’s always plenty on. Kids can have a ride on one of their ponies, there is a small animal holding area, a bird display and lamb feeding in season. You can also feed their goats etc. and the kid goats are often wandering around outside their pens. There is a small outdoor play area and a café. They are closed over winter. Find out more

Skegness Aquarium

This is a relatively newly built aquarium near the seafront in Skegness. It is not huge compared to some, however, it has been nicely done and with many things on during the day, you could easily spend more time here than just walking around. When you have finished your visit there is a soft play area upstairs next to the café and dinosaurs outdoors. Find out more

Tattershall Farm

This is our local farm and we can easily spend a whole day there. They have many different animals that you can feed including donkeys, goats, sheep and ponies. Plus more unusual animals such as Alpacas, Rheas and a bird of prey area. There are two big fun bouncy pillows, outdoor adventure play, soft play, indoor and outdoor sandpits and much more. Whisby Animal Centre

Located next to Whisby Garden Centre the animal centre isn’t massive however there is a large outdoor play area including a sand pit. They have also massively upgraded their soft play and installed a big new play barn. Find out more

Wolds Wildlife Park

Recently opened and slowly expanding this Wildlife park in Horncastle is a nice place to spend a couple of hours. They are adding more attractions as more investment comes in. Find out more

Woodside Wildlife Park

We always manage to spend a full day out at Woodside. They have many events on throughout the day including a show of some animals we’ve never seen before. There is a large conservatory with alligators, a tiger which you can watch being fed, birds and much more. There is also an outdoor play area. They are open almost all year round. Find out more

Go-Karting

Ancaster Karting 

They have 3 different types of Go Karts available for children and adults starting at 8 years old. There are also 6 different layouts. You can choose individual or group ‘track time’ driving. Find out more

Big Kidz Karting Skegness

Big Kidz Karting is located on Skegness foreshore. All the family can get involved as they have single and twin karts. They are open from February to November and weather conditions may affect opening. Find out more

Gridline Racing, Lincoln

This circuit is indoors and the minimum age for children to race is 8 years old. They even offer birthday parties for children over 8. They have a variety of pricing options. Find out more

Tattershall Karting Centre

This circuit is tucked away in the woods in rural Lincolnshire. You can tailor-make your own package to suit you and your abilities. Children have to be 8 or over to ride a kart at the track. Find out more

PF International Kart Circuit, Grantham

PFI is the largest kart centre in the UK and caters for many different karting events. There is also a bar, café and restaurant on site. I can see no mention of age limits so this place may well be adults only.

Historical

Belton House – National Trust

Built in the 1860’s this mansion has all the design features of a classic country house. For families, there is an indoor adventure play area. Outside there is one of the biggest adventure play parks that I have ever seen. It goes on and on and there’s even a miniature train running through it.

If you’re lucky you may spot some deer near the house itself. They have many events on here throughout the year. Entry is free with a national trust membership. Without one there are various different pricing options throughout the year such as house and grounds entry or just entry to their grounds. Find out more

Burghley House

Burghley House, near Stamford, is England’s greatest Elizabethan house. It is incredibly grand and the rooms inside the house are just as grand as the exterior. It was built in the mid-16th Century. The house has some truly lovely grounds including the Garden of Surprises and a fantastic new woodland play area. There’s also a sculpture trail, a deer park and more. Find out more

Doddington Hall and Gardens, near Lincoln

Doddington Hall is an Elizabethan manor house which was finally built in 1600. The hall has some really lovely gardens waiting to be explored. On most days if you want to visit the hall you need to check if it is actually open as mostly it isn’t. They also have guided tours on certain days which are well worth doing. The gardens themselves are open for most of the year. Find out more

Easton Walled Gardens HHA

Lincolnshire’s own ‘lost’ garden. 15 years after restoration you can see meadows, roses, sweet peas, vegetables and cut flowers. They have 12 acres of gardens waiting to be explored. Tickets can be bought as special experiences. Find out more

Gainsborough Old Hall – English heritage

Gainsborough Old Hall is amongst the biggest and best-preserved medieval manor houses in England. It is part timber-framed but mostly brick-built. It was built in the latter part of the 15th century with Elizabethan additions and has an impressive kitchen with an enormous fireplace, a noble great hall, and an imposing lodgings tower. Entrance to the hall is free if you are a member of English heritage. The hall is open for most of the year. Find out more

Grimsthorpe Castle – HHA

Grimsthorpe Castle is a country house, 4 miles northwest of Bourne. It lies within a 3,000-acre park of rolling pastures, lakes, and woodland landscaped by Capability Brown. There is an adventure playground within its grounds. Plus miles of trails that bikes are allowed on. Entrance is free to members of the HHA. It is open from the end of March until the end of September. They have entrance prices for the park and gardens or the park, gardens and castle. Find out more

Gunby Estate Hall and Gardens – National Trust

This National Trust property in Lincolnshire isn’t as child-friendly as Belton as it doesn’t have the play areas that Belton has. It does however have many family-friendly events on when it is open so it is worth checking their website, the same applies when checking to see if they are open. There are three floors of the house to explore, plus extensive grounds and walks. Entrance is free to National Trust members. Find out more

Lincoln Castle

This is a major Norman castle. A place where kings and convicts have walked. A symbol of power and punishment through the ages. And home to an original 1215 Magna Carta. It was built by William the Conqueror in 1068 on a site occupied since Roman times.

There is a restored circular wall walk, plus prisons to visit, there’s the Magna Carta and they have many events throughout the year. The castle is open for most of the year. Once you have purchased your ticket it entitles you to one extra visit, for free, within 6 months. You can also make a small saving by booking your tickets online. Find out more

Lincoln Cathedral

Lincoln Cathedral and its location are simply stunning. The interior is as breathtaking as the exterior. The Cathedral has been through many phases of construction since 1088. It’s the third largest Cathedral in the UK so there are many areas to explore inside including a café and a small area for relaxing in the sun. Make sure you find out all about the mischievous Lincoln imp during your visit.

Lincoln Medieval Bishops’ Palace – English Heritage

The palace was once one of the most important buildings in the UK. You can take an audio tour around the undercroft, entrance tower, chapel range and more.

Normanby Hall

Normanby Hall Country Park is a beautiful 300-acre estate set in the heart of North Lincolnshire and is one of the region’s top visitor attractions. The Hall and the Farming Museum are only open throughout the summer months.

There is a fantastic farmyard-themed water facility with water jets, sprinklers and fountains. With plenty more facilities on site, you can make a day of it with a play park, café, model railway and more.  Although the Hall etc. isn’t open all year round the park is. Find out more

Tattershall Castle – National Trust

You can explore a medieval world by climbing the many floors and seeing the many rooms of Tattershall castle. Once at the top you can walk on the battlements and witness spectacular views. There is a sandpit for the kids and plenty of family-friendly events throughout the year. Find out more

Thornton Abbey and Gatehouse – English Heritage

Thornton Abbey’s enormous and ornate fortified gatehouse is the largest and amongst the finest in England. The architecture reflects the abbey’s history as one of Britain’s richest Augustinian abbeys. You can still enter and walk around the Gatehouse. The Abbey itself is now a ruin but a fun one to explore. Entrance is free to English Heritage members. It is mostly only open at weekends. Find out more

Woolsthorpe Manor – National Trust

This is the birthplace and family home of Sir Isaac Newton and his famous apple tree can be found there. While there aren’t a great many things for the kids they do have a few family events on during the year. Also across the farmyard in the Science Centre, children of all ages – even grown-up ones – can get hands-on with some of Isaac’s most famous experiments.

Even the smallest visitors can climb into their ‘tower’ and drop things to discover how gravity works, and your A-level scientists can talk about black holes with their science centre volunteers.

Museums

Ayscoughfee Hall Museum, Spalding

An interesting museum giving information on the town and surrounding area. It gives detailed information on the agricultural history of the surrounding area and fens. The gardens are lovely and well-kept. There is an aviary and children’s play area. Entry to the museum and gardens is free.

Battle of Britain, Memorial Flight Visitor Centre, RAF Coningsby

Viewing the historic aircraft is available only by guided tour. You will be shown around the hangar by volunteer guides, many of whom have firsthand experience of the aircraft. Tours of the hangar last approximately one to one and a half hours. Within the hangar, you may see: Lancaster PA474, Douglas Dakota ZA947, six Spitfires, two Hurricanes, and two Chipmunks.

The centre and hangar are located within the boundaries of RAF Coningsby where you will enter a military environment. Therefore all bags are prohibited within the RAF BBMF Hangar on public tours. The visitor centre is open from Monday to Friday, although may sometimes be closed.

Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre

Experience the sights, sounds and smells of Grimsby as the ‘world’s premier fishing port’ at an award-winning attraction. Discover life for British trawlermen in a job described as ‘the most dangerous peacetime occupation in the UK’. Climb aboard the historic ‘Ross Tiger’ trawler to experience the conditions aboard one of the earliest surviving diesel side trawlers. Find out more

Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby

This is a Heritage Museum which is based on a 1940s RAF Lancaster Bomber airfield. It is the only place in the UK where you can enjoy a taxy ride experience in an RAF Avro Lancaster bomber. It’s lovely to be able to see the Lancaster and there’s plenty of exhibits to see and explore. It takes you right back to the 1940s. They also hold some really great annual events. They are open for most of the year however they are closed on Sundays. Find out more

Museum of Lincolnshire Life, Lincoln

The Museum of Lincolnshire Life is a very child-friendly museum. There’s plenty to see and do and learn all about the past years of Lincolnshire life. Jamie loved exploring the different halls full of displays, old shop displays and the history hunter’s playground.

It’s a great attraction in any weather. We explored in the middle of winter! They also have children’s trails to make their visit a bit more interesting. Be sure to ask for a trail. There is also a shop and café on site. Find out more

Museum of RAF Firefighting, Gainsborough

Perfect for anyone who loves fire engines. The Museum of RAF Firefighting hosts a large collection of privately owned Fire related memorabilia, models and items used by fire services throughout the Globe, concentrating mostly on RAF but also other Military and Domestic Fire services.

It was based at RAF Scampton and is now being moved to the old Eminox factory in Gainsborough, the Museum team are putting this site together to re-open to the public in 2018.

National Centre for Craft and Design, Sleaford

The National Centre for Craft & Design is the largest venue in England entirely dedicated to the exhibition, celebration and promotion of national and international craft and design. They have family workshops during the holidays. It is free to visit.

North Lincolnshire Museum, Scunthorpe

They have a wide range of events at the museum running throughout the year including family-friendly activities and organised sessions. Featuring a range of permanent galleries and a changing exhibition gallery, the Museum offers a history experience for all the family.

You can explore through a range of award-winning collections and interactive displays.  There is a Jurassic Sea gallery and a new Steel Town gallery, complete with children’s interactive areas. They are free to visit and open for most of the year. Find out more

The Collection, Lincoln

The Collection Museum is a really intriguing museum. It’s based on life from the past half a million years (nearly) in Lincolnshire. All different ages are accounted for and a lot of the exhibits can be touched or even worn.

There’s armour to wear, stained glass windows to make, touch-screen games and plenty more. Although the museum is very child-friendly Play at the collection is well equipped for the little ones. There are plenty of dress-up outfits with a stage to act out their character. Toys, crafts and more. Find out more

Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum, Lincoln

Lincolnshire Road Transport Museum is a privately owned museum run by the Lincolnshire Vintage Vehicle Society. It houses a collection of over 40 vintage, classic and commercial vehicles dating back to 1927 including Leyland, Bristol and AEC buses. They are only open on select days throughout the year. Admission for an adult is £5.00 and under 18’s are free. They do not accept cards.

Trolleybus Museum, Sandtoft

The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft is a transport museum that specialises in the preservation of trolleybuses. It has over 60 historic trolleybuses in its collection. Visitors can ride on them on open days and it is open on specific days between Easter and November. Find out more

The Village, Church Farm, Skegness

This is Lincolnshire’s only open-air farming museum, situated in the heart of Skegness. There are so many things to see and explore at The Village Church Farm. They have many family-friendly events throughout the season. Admission to the museum is free and they do accept donations. Some of the events may have an admission fee. I am struggling to find when they are or aren’t open. Find out more

Time Trap, Grimsby

Discover this surprising attraction within the former police cells of Grimsby Town Hall, it will take you on a time travel journey to uncover the town’s colourful past. As you pass through dark, twisting corridors you will be able to explore mysterious nooks and crannies and make your way up and down winding stairs. You will discover the town’s treasures as you piece together the jigsaw that reveals how Grimsby developed. Find out more

Usher Gallery, Lincoln

Just along from The Collection, you will find the other free museum The Usher Gallery. It is not as child-friendly as its neighbour. However, it makes a good introduction to art for children and they are more than welcome. As well as paintings they also exhibit sculptures, decorative arts plus clocks and watches. It is free to enter.

Nature Reserves

Donna Nook Nature Reserve

This is one of the best places to see Grey seals, in the UK. The best time to see them is during November and December when they give birth to their pups near the sand dunes.  There is nothing quite like the haunting sound of the seals as you cross over the sand dunes to see them. They are so close and many are right up against the fence. It is free to visit, although you may have to pay a small charge to park during the busy months. Find out more

Frampton Marsh

Blessed with a variety of freshwater habitats, Frampton Marsh provides close views of the abundant birdlife of The Wash, one of Europe’s most special places for wildlife. Avocets, redshanks, skylarks and whimbrels can all be seen in summer, with thousands of ducks gathering on the freshwater scrapes in winter. Find out more

Gibraltar Point

Gibraltar Point impresses with its sheer scale and diversity of wildlife but to appreciate it fully you need to see it in different seasons. In spring, when the first of the migrants stop off to refuel or establish territories.

Then in summer, little terns may be seen fishing in the shallows and skylarks are in full song above the purple haze of the saltmarshes. In autumn, huge whirling flocks of waders can be seen on the high tides. And in winter, there’s Brent geese, shorelark and snow bunting as well as flocks of redwing and fieldfare. Find out more

Whisby Nature Park, Lincoln

The lakes at Whisby Nature Park, near Lincoln, are surrounded by grassland, marsh, scrub and willow carr. Elements of the original landscape, from before quarrying also remain, with fragments of heathland, old hedgerows and a small oak woodland. There’s a variety of walks to choose from around the lakes, bikes aren’t allowed. There is a lovely indoor play area, plus an outdoor play area, sandpit and water play. Find out more

Boston – Witham Way Country Park

Situated approximately one mile from the town centre, the park offers a great setting for both wildlife and people! Witham Way Country Park is a haven for local wildlife with a mosaic of woodland, grassland and scrub. A wildflower meadow attracts bees and other pollen gatherers, and habitats are created on-site including a bug park attracting butterflies and other invertebrates.

Boston Woods Trust

Founded in 2001, The Boston Woods Trust was formed to provide the people of Boston with a much-needed amenity for recreational purposes including walking, bird watching and cycling. There are now two major areas, The Sir Joseph Banks Country Park and Woods at Wyberton and the Fenside Woods on Fenside Road in Boston.

Chambers Farm Wood, near Bardney

Situated on the site of a medieval woodland it contains ancient limes and a wealth of butterflies. A joy for any nature lover at any time of the year. There is a small car park. Find out more

Hartsholme Country Park, Lincoln

Hill Holt Wood, Norton Disney

Hill Holt Wood is a 14-hectare sustainably managed ancient woodland situated on the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire border. It’s a wonderful and enriching place to visit with facilities ranging from permaculture gardens, environmental sculpture, woodland walks, computer facilities, workshops and composting loos!

Hubbard’s Hills, Louth

This area of natural beauty in Louth is a lovely place for an afternoon stroll. There is a shallow stream running through it which is popular with families for paddling. There are some really lovely trees there as well.

Lincoln Arboretum

This is a public park originally laid out in the late-19th century by Edward Milner. The park was restored in the early 21st century and features lakes, fountains and a 19th-century bandstand. There is also a children’s maze.

Queens Park, Mablethorpe

This has a boating lake, paddling pool, golf putting green, bowling green, tennis courts and a miniature railway.

Wyndham Park, Grantham

Wyndham Park lies on the banks of the River Witham just to the north of Grantham Town Centre. It offers a wide range of facilities for young and old and proudly holds the Green Flag Award. There is a sensory garden, toddlers play area and splash park. Plus playing fields, skateboard park, tea rooms and tennis court.

Bottons Pleasure Beach, Skegness

Bottons have been providing all the fun and thrills of the traditional fairground for all the family, for children on school trips and a huge range of other parties since taking over the Skegness Pleasure Beach in 1965. The park is free to enter. Rides can be paid for with an all-day wristband or pay-as-you ride with tokens. Wristbands give unlimited access to 25 rides for the day, right up until closing time.

Dunes Leisure, Mablethorpe

Open most weekends and school holidays Dunes Leisure has fairground rides for young and old. Situated right next to the central beach at Mablethorpe you can choose to go on as much or as little as you like.

Skegness – Embassy pool

In the heart of Skegness, the Embassy outdoor swimming complex offers a large 25m six-lane heated outdoor swimming pool with a ‘beach’ area for children to paddle. There is plenty of seating on the grass area, a snack bar offering refreshments and poolside chalets. There is also an indoor 25m six-lane pool with a 33m flume if you get a little chilly! New Theatre Royal, Lincoln

The New Theatre Royal is situated just a short distance away from the main shopping area. It was built back in 1893 and retains the original character of its interior to this day. Louth Riverhead Theatre is a local community-owned venue. It is maintained and run by Louth Playgoers Society Ltd – a dedicated team made up almost entirely of volunteers.

Cleethorpes Light Coast Railway

The award-winning Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway has been delighting old and young alike for generations. Sit back and enjoy a 4-mile return journey along the picturesque Humberside coast on one of Britain’s oldest seaside miniature railways. Cleethorpes Lollipop Road train

Take a fun ride along the seafront offering scenic views of the beach, sea and beautiful flower beds. It is a delightful journey for the young and not-so-young. The train runs every 30 minutes following a route from the north promenade, near the 2016 award-winning pier, linking up with the light railway near the leisure centre.

Lincolnshire Wolds Railway, Ludborough

Situated in a beautiful part of Lincolnshire, in the countryside between the Wolds and the coast, LWR is only a short distance from Grimsby, the seaside resort of Cleethorpes and the historic market town of Louth. The railway operates on a stretch of line that was once part of the Great Northern route from Boston to Grimsby. They have many special event days. They have limited running days. Find out more

Springfield Outlet – Springfields Adventureland

Their new facilities include a fun JCB young drivers Zone. Which is a role-play area with ride-on JCBs, along a track that even has a round-a-bout, pretend petrol pumps, shops and more. There’s even a little hill on the track. Also in this area, there’s JCB-themed play equipment. Sessions are timed so make sure you book your one-hour slot.

Springy’s Beach is an undercover sand and water play area. You might want to bring a change of clothes for this one. They also have Goldie’s gold mine where you can pan for ‘gold’ and Sky nets and more. Find out more

Mablethorpe – Sand train

This is so affordable and so much fun. A round trip is just £2 each or there are plenty of other cheaper options available if you don’t need to travel the whole distance. The sand train starts the day at a stop near the steps, just to the left of the main Mablethorpe beach. It travels left down the beach to the Seal Sanctuary and back.

There are 5 stops along the way including Haven and the cinema. The best thing about the sand train is that not only does it ride on the sand but on the way back to Mablethorpe it also goes in the sea. What fun!

Miscellaneous Activities

Activities Away – Lincoln

This is an outdoor watersports centre. As a family, you can sit on top of kayaks (and go kayaking), stand up on paddle boards and mini inflatables, plus there are pedalos. They also have canoeing lessons and jet skis for older children. Find out more

Ancaster Karting – other activities

As well as karting and bowling already mentioned above there are other leisure options available at Ancaster karting. There is paintball for children aged 10 and over. They have many different packages available. They have quad bikes to hire for ages 16 and over plus laser tag which children from 7 years old can play.

Arial Trail, Scunthorpe

This is next to, but a separate business from the Pink Pig farm. The Arial Trail has two high rope courses designed around platforms built in the tree canopies with descending zip wires to the ground at the end. The seven obstacle course and the eleven obstacle course are individually designed to give an hour’s challenge to differing age groups and abilities with climbers experiencing the security of a continuous belay system called a Roperoller, which enables you to traverse through the woodland. There is no age limit but you have to be 1 metre tall and under 18.5 stone.

Boston Bowl, Everything else, Boston

As well as bowling and soft play at Play Towers (both mentioned above) Boston Bowl has also added a couple of new activities. They also have Krazee Klimb which is an indoor climbing wall for children which is suitable for children 4 and over. No previous climbing experience is needed. Adults are also welcome.

Also at Boston Bowl, you can now find Battle Warehouse which is a Nerf centre. Each session is led by a Zone Commander and they will guide you through the non-stop activities ahead. Each participant will receive a target vest, goggles and of course the all-important Blaster. It is suitable for children aged 5 and over.

Bubblecar Museum, Langrick near Boston

There are over 50 microcars from the 50s, 60s and beyond, with extensive collections of memorabilia, advertising and articles from these evocative times. It’s a small museum with lots in it.

Butlins, Skegness

You can pay for a day pass to Butlins in Skegness. While your day pass does allow you to use their free facilities and see some entertainment it does not allow you to see the headline entertainment such as Dick and Dom, Justin Fletcher, Mr Bloom etc. You can save 20% by booking online in advance (this also guarantees you admission).

Your day ticket includes admission from 10 am – 6 pm. With the last admission at 2 p.m. There are unlimited rides in their traditional outdoor funfair. Access to Splash Waterworld. Live daytime entertainment in the Skyline Pavilion and Little Stars outdoor fairground and soft play area.

Daisy Made Ice Cream, near Lincoln

This is a small farm with a coffee shop serving homemade ice cream, animals to pet, crazy golf (13 holes) and a play area, including working diggers, bouncy castles and cars for the older kids to drive.

Eastside Ceramics Mablethorpe

Paint your own pottery at Eastside Ceramics. Perfect for a wet day or calming the little ones down for a bit. They are close to the main street and everyone is welcome.

Fairworld Laser Adventure, Cleethorpes

Suitable for children from age 9+. The Fairworld Lazer Adventure is an interactive combat gaming experience taking laser adventure to the next level at one of the largest laser adventure centres in the north. Laser cannons fire harmless infra-red beams, which register scores on the packs of your opponents when you hit them.

There’s no physical contact or impact involved. It is similar to an indoor play centre where you can swing on ropes, scramble through ball lagoons and over cargo nets, plus slide down a huge drain pipe to a whole new level. There is no mention of pricing on their website.

GoApe – Normanby Hall

This is now open. It is Lincolnshire’s first and only GoApe course. There is a course for juniors and a course for older children and adults. Find out more

Grimsby ice rink

They have events and activities suitable for all ages at affordable prices. This is the only ice rink in Lincolnshire. They have skate aids available to hire for the little ones. Find out more

Jolly Roger Adventure Golf, Skegness

This is located next to the aquarium and has a great and fun pirate theme to the holes. They are open throughout the summer and most of the spring. I have even spotted them open over the winter months. Please let me know if you know how much a round of adventure golf is here thanks.

Laser Quest, Skegness

This is located within Skegness Pier (downstairs next to the bowling). Laser Quest is, in essence, a game of tag with a twist! Points are awarded every time you ‘zap’ another player, with points deducted every time you are ‘zapped’. At the end of each game, scores are displayed on a plasma score screen, with each player receiving an individual scorecard that has a breakdown of the score.

The game is played in a purpose-built arena. A huge glow-in-the-dark maze makes it hard to follow players and lots of corners and barrels to hide behind. Each game will last approximately 15 minutes which includes a safety briefing and the kit. They have a minimum height of 1.1 metres. Find out more

Market Rasen Racecourse

This is the only racecourse in Lincolnshire. They have a few family special event race days throughout the year which I can recommend. Last year Jamie met Bing and they had bouncy castles for the kids to play on. Race day pricing varies and so do the pricing levels according to where you want to stand.

Paint A Pot Place is a family-run business which offers great fun for all ages. It’s not about being the best artist, but more about creating your own unique pieces of ceramic artwork, whether it be for a gift, to mark a special occasion, or simply to fill that void on the mantlepiece.

Paintball Combat Zone, Lincoln

They are the only site in the UK to offer truly all-inclusive paintball sessions for the under-18s. Low-impact paintball is available for the over 8s and all-inclusive paintball pump action sessions for the 11-18 year-old player. Viking way

Wild Pines Park, High Ropes, Market Rasen

This is a high ropes course and activity centre, situated in a 9-acre woodland, near Market Rasen. It is one of the largest ropes courses in the UK, with challenging and exciting activities. This course sounds quite challenging with plenty to it. The minimum age is 6. However, they recommend children from 8 years of age as the course is very challenging for younger children. Young children who are under 140cm will have to be accompanied by someone taller than 140cm.

Woodhall spa trail

You can walk, cycle or ride the Spa Trail on 3 miles of flat, surfaced path/bridleway along the mid-section of the old Horncastle to Woodhall Junction railway line and part of the Horncastle Canal. This trail is part of the Viking Way long-distance footpath (see above). It passes through woods and rolling countryside. There are sculptures made from wood, stone and metal scattered along the way, reflecting local wildlife and links with the past.

Woodthorpe Garden Centre, near Alford (inc. Lincs Aquatics)

This is a garden centre with some extra facilities. There’s a small dinosaur exhibition, ‘Dinothorpe’ with animated dinosaurs, a maze and a playground for the kids. All are free to use. If you are visiting why not pop in Lincs Aquatics just down the road from here?

There are more fish tanks than I’ve ever seen with more types of fish than I’ve ever seen. They also have some tanks in the back room with lizards, snakes and more. Plus for just 60p you can feed the giant fish up in their large tank. As it’s a shop there is no charge other than buying the food for the fish. Find out more
